Jennylyn, Patrick finally admit romantic liaison
Jennylyn Mercado and Patrick Garcia finally admitted that they're on, after a week of trying to keep mum about the issue. Still Mercado would rather have kept it to themselves. In an interview with Lhar Santiago of "Chika Minute," aired on Wednesday evening, Mercado explained their reluctance to let admit the affair: "Kasi kamukha nung nangyari sa amin ni Mark [Herras] na parang gumulo. Okay na nga na gumulo, dahil ang daming chismis, ang daming naninira. Parang kami, naguguluhan na rin kami."
Herras, her ex-boyfriend, has himself been the subject of rumors, linking him to Katrina Halili.
Mercado and Garcia are very conscious too that they could very well use interest in their personal relationship to attract attention to their shows.
But they'd rather keep their personal lives separate from their careers.
"Mas gusto namin ang tahimik," Mercado said. "Pero hindi namin maiwasan ang hindi maging tahimik dahil nga maraming tao ang nagugulo."
Even their admission, in fact, was something they did out of media pressure.
"Actually, hindi kami ang nag-decide noon," Mercado said.
Last Saturday, January 14, Mercado and Garcia appeared on GMA's StarTalk, and gave what must be the most speechless interview ever in the history of local television.
Just a week earlier, they admitted on the same show that they love each other. In the January 14 episode, they made the admission by not denying anything.
Host Butch Francisco asked them if they were already officially a couple.
The couple looked into each other's eyes, Mercado lightly squeezing Garcia's thigh, but they said nothing, despite Francisco's repeated question.
The talk show host then decided that the silence, with not even a hint of denial from either, meant yes. So he asked each of them what their promise was to each other.
"Nandito lang ako para sa kanya, kung may problema siya," Garcia said.
To which Mercado gave the same reply: "Nandito lang ako for him."
So are they now ready to face an insistent media hungry for any little tidbit about their new relationship?
"Ready na. Siguro may limit na. Hindi na katulad ng noon."
