Leave it to Beyoncé to steal the spotlight at Sunday's Video Music Awards.

But it wasn't one of the pop diva's signature show-stopping performances that had people talking. Instead, it was Beyoncé's burgeoning baby bump, swathed in an orange gown.

Beyoncé, 29, posed for photos with her hands cradling her belly, teasing, "I have a surprise!"

Marian Rivera wants to give glamorous roles a rest. “Gusto kong gumanap na basurera, para makita ng mga tao na puwede rin ako sa ganoong klaseng character,” she shares after revealing to us that she’ll be topbilling a sitcom when “Amaya” wraps up.

The lovely Kapuso star’s yearning for a thespic stretch is just one of the things she’s working on – but, even more immediate on Marian’s to-do list is, in her own words, “to adjust my attitude.” In fact, not a few birdies have told us that the feisty actress has indeed been working extra hard to be “nicer” these days.

We didn’t know what to expect when we flew to Davao last weekend to observe Marian and her GMA 7 co-stars like Manny Pacquiao, Sid Lucero, Rhian Ramos, Glaiza de Castro, Mikael Daez, and the teeners and tweeners of “Tween Academy” as they added stellar zing to the Kadayawan festival’s merrymaking.



Two-pronged question

When we finally met Marian, she was glowing and buzzing with positive vibe as she warmly greeted us and signified her intention to go karaoke-singing in the evening. She warily shrugged her shoulders when somebody naughtily egged her on with a two-pronged question: “How’s your, uh, Heart?”

“I’m very transparent and vocal about my thoughts and feelings – and, sometimes, that’s what gets me in trouble,” she later admits. “Sa dami ng mga intrigang pinagdaanan ko, I realized na hindi pala lahat ng bagay, pinapatulan. Dapat matutunan din natin kung hanggang saan ang pagiging ‘transparent,’ to avoid hurting people. You learn from experience, and you go with the flow.” Lesson well learned, indeed.

Still, her winking tactlessness comes through from time to time, like when we asked her if she drew her newfound maturity and outlook from boyfriend, Dingdong Dantes. She explains, “I don’t think we’d last this long kung wala kaming naibibigay na positive sa isa’t isa. True, good influence talaga si Dong sa akin – pero, ako din naman sa kanya. Kasi, ang personality n’ya dati, dry, at tahimik lang s’ya palagi. Now, he’s bubbly (laughs)!”

Iconic characters

Which among the iconic characters she’s played so far does she relate to the most – Darna, Dyesebel, Amaya or Marimar? She readily replies, “Nakaka-relate ako kay Marimar kasi inosente s’ya at walang alam sa mga bagay-bagay, like when I first joined show biz. The show introduced me to the world – at dun ko rin nakilala si Dong, although I wasn’t in love with him then. That came later, when we were doing ‘Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang’ (swoons)!”

What’s one thing that the public doesn’t know about her? She answers, “They know everything! But, they should also know that I’m trying my best. I’m still the same Marian, pero hindi na ako mapagpatol.”

Nag-umpisa ang misunderstanding nina Carla at Kuya Mario sa column item na isinulat nito at lumabas noong Linggo. Hindi nagustuhan ni Carla ang isinulat ni Kuya Mario kaya pinadalhan niya ng email ang huli.

MONA Louise Rey, who plays the title role in “Munting Heredera.” celebrated her 7th birthday last Friday with the show’s cast members. Mark Anthony Fernandez and Camille Prats who play her parents in the show both wish her the best for her career “and don’t change, huwag sanang lalaki ang ulo mo.” Their director, Maryo de los Reyes, prayed that may she get her wish to win a best child actress award.

Other co-stars like Gloria Romero, Roderick Paulate and tot co-stars Barbara Miguel and Kyle Ocampo also expressed their love and well wishes for her. Mona really has reason to celebrate as “Munting Heredera” continues to rate very high that it’s been extended for yet another month.

DENNIS Trillo has been loveless since he broke up with Jennylyn Mercado who’s now linked to Luis Manzano.

“I want to be more careful with my next relationship, para walang gulo,” he says. “As of now, mas enjoy akong walang lovelife as I’m so busy with ‘Sinner or Saint’ on TV and shooting the film ‘My Neighbor’s Wife’. I won’t have time para makipag-date. My life is so peaceful being single. Tutok muna ako sa work. I’m so proud to be part of ‘My Neighbor’s Wife’ kasi acting piece ito for all of us in the cast.”

Jen admitted slapping him several times. It’s said this is recreated by Lovi Poe and Carla Abellana in “My Neighbor’s Wife.” “Hindi naman sinadyang i-recreate 'yun for the movie. Nag-away kami so ilang beses nila akong sinampal. And I told them totohanin ang pagsampal para maramdaman ko talaga. I don’t want to fake it or our emotions. Sanay na naman akong nasasampal, di ba?” he laughs.

BARBIE Forteza says she’s not slighted that Elmo Magalona, Jake Vargas and Joshua Dionisio were billed ahead of her in the poster of “Tween Academy: Class of 2012” even if most writers feel she should get top billing since she already had title rolers like “Pilyang Kerubin” and “Nita Negrita.”

“Hindi naman po issue sa’kin yan,” she says. “Okay lang sa’kin kahit sino nauna sa billing, basta nandiyan pa rin ang pangalan ko. Lahat sila sa cast, friends ko, ang importante nagkakasundo kami. As of now, kaysa sa billing, mas natetensiyon ako sa pagbubukas ng movie namin sa mga sinehan. Buti na lang, very encouraging ang feedback after the premiere night last Tuesday. Lahat ng nanood, nagandahan, kakagatin daw ng tao kasi masaya siya and it brings back happy memories of one’s teen years.”

DAPAT turuan si Carla Abellana ng tamang pakikisama sa press people.

She caught the ire of one of the most respected movie writers in the industry, colleague Mario Bautista.

Carla doesn’t know the role writers like Mario, who has praised her to high heavens dahil sa kanyang husay bilang isang baguhan in his past columns, play in her career. Na-misquote lang siya ng kapiraso at hindi naman damaging ay nagdi-demand na ng erratum. OMG, dapat turuan ‘yan ng kanyang manager na si Arnold Vegafria! At parang tinakot pa niya si Mario (na kilala naman ng lahat na walang kinatatakutan, palaban at alam kung saan siya nakalugar).

LOVI Poe could be considered the star of the hour. Lovi doesn’t have to exert too much effort to look seductive as it comes so naturally.

Her figure is like that a mannequin inside a glass display window.

In her new movie, My Neighbor’s Wife with Carla Abellana, Jake Cuenca and Dennis Trillo, she didn’t strip off to her naked glory but she could make every man’s fantasy a reality with her acting. Ang ikinaiba ni Lovi, she’s dusky yet she oozes with sex appeal to Filipino men who are partial with porcelain-skinned women.

HINDI na talaga maawat ang kasikatan ni Sam Pinto who belongs to Claire de la Fuente’s stable of beautiful and talented stars. Patunay lamang na si Sam ay made na bilang actress kahit di pa man tumatagal sa industriya. Nasa hilera na siya ng may pinakamataas na talent fee. Imagine, sa commercials lang, she commands a P3 million asking price at kinakagat naman dahil naniniwala sila sa gayuma ng ganda ni Sam .

Kabilang sa mga commercial niya ang San Mig, Fitrum, Creamsilk at malapit na ring Makita ang billboard niya sa EDSA for Smart with the Philippine Azkals.

Samantala, nagkaroon ng fans day si Sam na ang mga dumalo ay mga galing sa sosyal na pamilya mula pa sa iba’t ibang lugar. Dahil sa tinamong papuri ni Sam sa ‘Tween Academy: Class of 2012,’ inimbitahan ng manager niyang si Claire de la Fuente ang mga fans sa isang dinner bonding sa restaurant niya Seafood Market sa Macapagal Avenue.

Hindi na namin tinapos ang buong pelikula dahil sa wala na kaming naririnig kundi puro tilian na lang ng mga fans. Kaya panonoorin na lang namin ito sa regular showing bukas.

Base sa attendance ng mga tagahanga na dumagsa sa naturang premiere night, lamang na lamang pa rin ang love team nina Joshua Dionisio at Barbie Forteza. Sila pa rin ang pinakamalakas at talagang matindi ang suporta ng mga followers ng dalawa.

May tampo si Steven Silva sa pamunuan ng Siyete dahil mas magaganda ang mga proyekto na naibibigay sa kanyang mga runner-ups sa StarStruck na sina Enzo Pineda at Rocco Nacino.

Baka naman dahil mas matatas silang mag-Tagalog kesa sa kanya. Siyempre mas malaking kalamangan nila ito sa kanya. Ang dapat niyang gawin kesa magtampo ay mas ihanda pa ang kanyang sarili by learning Tagalog more, and take up acting workshop.

Wala namang mawawala sa kanya kung patuloy at patuloy siyang mag-aaral umarte, maski na ’yung mga magagaling na arista ay nag-a-undergo pa rin ng acting workshop, siya pa kaya na baguhan ang hindi?

May intriga kasi na “one of those” lamang si Joshua sa pelikula ng GMA Films dahil sina Elmo Magalona, Bea Binene, at Barbie Forteza ang ibinebenta bilang mga lead stars.

Nag-deny ang mga sumugod sa premiere night ng pelikula noong Sabado sa SM Megamall Cinema 9 at Cinema 10. Hindi true ang intriga dahil inumpisahan at tinapos nila ang pelikula. Mahaba ang exposure ni Joshua as in hindi ito nagmukhang extra.

Kuwento nga ni Gwen, marami silang pinagpilian pero masuwerte raw siya ang napili ng mga Indonesian producer.

“I’m the witness, from the title, The Witness. I play a Filipina expat who works in a hotel, I’m half-American, half-Filipina.”
