RICHARD’S GF REJECTS ‘LUPIN’

RICHARD Gutierrez’s GF, model Georgina Wilson, is supposed to debut as an actress playing one of his leading ladies in “Lupin.” But the role went to 2007 Bb. Pilipinas runnerup Abigail Lesley Cruz. Is it true it’s Richard himself who urged Georgina to reject the role?
“No,” he says. “Okay lang sa ‘kin, she’s also open to it, at gusto rin siya ng GMA. The problem is hindi naayos ang schedule niya sa school niya in Australia and she had to return there na nang mag-start kami ng taping. Isa pa, she felt she had to really prepare for it kasi when she read the script, ang hahaba ng lines niya,
all in Tagalog, and she’s not very fluent with that kaya tiyak na mabubulol lang siya. Puro dramatic lines pa naman. Baka tuwing magkamali siya, magtawanan lang kami sa harap ng kamera. Sayang nga, pero siguro, hindi pa lang the right time for her to join showbiz. Malay natin, baka next time, mas ready na siya.”
After playing fantasy roles in “Mulawin,” “Sugo” and “Captain Barbell”, Richard is happy to play a realistic character in “Lupin,” a business tycoon by day who turns into an expert thief at night to help the needy. Although the title is based on a hit Japanese anime, the story is quite different. Richard has two sexy assistants: Katrina Halili and Ehra Madrigal who are shown in two-piece bikinis in almost each episode. Also in the cast are Polo Ravales, Rhian Ramos, Boy II Quizon, Janno Gibbs, Ara Mina, LJ Reyes, Tirso Cruz III, Ricky Davao, Ramon Christopher, Lani Mercado and Bearwin Meily.
One thing you’d notice in the show is that Richard does the dangerous stunts himself, like in a death-defying helicopter scene. After seeing this, his mom Annabelle Rama, talked to the staff of “Lupin” to warn them not to let Richard do the risky action sequences but get a double instead. When told that Richard insisted on doing the scenes on his own, Annabelle told them not to listen to him. “Huwag kayong papayag,” she says. “You should think of his safety.
Kaya ako, tuwing aalis siya for taping, abut-abot na ang dasal ko dahil lagi akong nakakaramdam ng takot knowing ayaw niyang magpadobol. Kaya kapag delikado ang eksena, please, use a double na.”
