Twelve hours before American Idol crowned David Cook as its seventh-season winner, Pinoy Idol formally introduced to the entertainment press its Top 24—12 men and 12 women—last night, May 21, at Teatrino in Promenade, Greenhills. These 24 Idol hopefuls bested more than 20,000 others who auditioned all over the country.

The Top 24 singers were personally handpicked by Pinol Idol judges Ogie Alcasid, Jolina Magdangal, and Wyngard Tracy. And based on what the entertainment press saw and heard last night—all of the 24 Idol hopefuls performed for the first time before a live audience—most agree that the judges did a very good job in choosing who will compete to become the first Pinoy Idol.

This group has very diverse musical talents—from ballad to pop to R&B to rock to jazz to blues to standards—that will make the show exciting. Ten of them are professional singers while the remaining contestants are raw and undiscovered. The age of the contestants range from 16 to 28.

The 12 ladies who made the cut are the following:

The workshop phase of Pinoy Idol will begin Friday night, May 23, with the Top 12 men performing first. The following night, May 24, the Top 12 women will take the center stage. Then, on Sunday (May 25), the first elimination will take place

Aside from the performance nights and elimination night, Pinoy Idol viewers will also be able to take a glimpse of the drama behind the competition via a special show called Pinoy Idol Extra starting May 25. Hosted by Karylle and Rhian Ramos, the show will offer the viewers behind the scenes footage and highlights of the contenders throughout the competition. Pinoy Idol will be shown every Sunday right after SOP and weekdays after The Legend.

Simula nang i-announce na along with Karylle ay si Rhian Ramos na ang napiling magho-host sa Pinoy Idol Extra, ilang e-mail na halos lahat ay protesta sa pagkakapili kay Rhian to be one of the hosts of the said show.

Some of the e-mails ay may mga provided links pa sa iba't ibang Internet sites kunsaan, may mga nauna nang petition para hindi matuloy si Rhian as host in Pinoy Idol Extra, na obviously, hindi naging successful dahil ang dalaga pa rin ang kinuhang host ng PIE with Karylle nga.

Isa sa reason na ibinibigay ng mga nagpe-petition against Rhian ay ang hindi raw pagiging deserving nito na maging host ng PIE. Hindi raw porke't marunong itong mag-English, ay basehan na para masabing puwede na itong host. Katuwiran pa raw nila, marami pang ibang artists ang GMAAC (GMA Artists Center) na mas deserving than Rhian.

Isa pang pinepetisyon ng tinatawag ngayong "Rhian Haters" ay ang pagkakasali raw ni Rhian sa Pinoy version ng Korean series na Full House. Bagama't hindi pa naman ito gaanong napag-uusapan dahil sa December 2008 to January 2009 pa naman ito masisimulan, ngayon pa lang ay nag-iingay na ang mga Haters ni Rhian against sa pagkakasali nito sa naturang project.

Kung matatandaan, ang Full House ang isa sa mga sumikat na Koreanovela sa bansa na pinagbidahan ng Korean actress na si Song Hye Kyo.

Naungkat din sa forum thread ng ibinigay na link ng mga nagpadala ng e-mail sa PEP ang mga previous projects pa ng young actress sa network. Kahit daw hindi natuloy si Rhian sa ibang mga projects na noong una'y nabanggit na ang pangalan niya, may nahahanap pa ring rason ang mga Haters kung bakit hindi nga natuloy si Rhian for a certain project at saka nila ikino-connect naman sa ibang project pang ginagawa nito.

Hindi rin pinalagpas ng mga nang-iintriga kay Rhian ang pagkakasama niya sa 3rd Asian Super Model Contest sa ginaganap hanggang ngayon sa China. Ayon sa mga Haters, resulta raw ng pagkakapili kay Rhian para mag-represent ng Pilipinas sa naturang contest ang pagiging malakas diumano nito sa GMAAC. Originally raw, dalawang young actress ng GMAAC ang dapat na kasama sa mga sasali sa model contest, pero napalitan daw ito ng dalawang diumano'y mas may "kapit."

Idinidiin pa ng haters ni Rhian na may favoritism daw sa GMAAC dahil pamangkin nga si Rhian ng head ng GMAAC na si Ida Henares. Kaya nga raw halos lahat ng projects ni Rhian ay sinasabing dahil lang sa pagiging pamangkin ni Ms. Henares o isang kaso umano ito ng nepotism.

Kung tutuusin, napaka-unfair sa young actress ng mga nangyayari at bintang ng ilang galit na showbiz fans sa kanya na nagsasabing sikat lang siya because of favoritism or nepotism.

Nakikita rin naman kasi that she's one newcomer na may potensiyal naman at hardworking. Pero yun nga lang, dahil sa naturang connection niya, lahat halos ng gawin niya ay tila nabibigyan ng kulay or malisya.

Minsan na rin sinagot nina Rhian at Ms. Ida ang isyu ng favoritism sa ginanap na press conference for GMAAC image plug, at ayon sa kanila, wala raw katotohanan ang mga bintang na pagkakaroon ng favoritism among their artists.

Mukha rin namang nasanay na si Rhian sa mga negative feedbacks sa kanya every time na may bago siyang show or movie at hindi na lang ito pinapansin ng Kapuso star kundi trabaho na lang talaga ang inaatupag.
