Vic Sotto's greatest fear: To lose Pia Guanio
Top comedian-TV host Vic Sotto appeared on the last episode of S-Files last April 22. Pia Guanio, Vic's girlfriend and one of the hosts of the GMA-7 showbiz talk show, turned her interview with the comedian into a game called "Icon.fess." Vic filled in the blanks after Pia started the sentence with "I confess." Vic, although surprised, gamely agreed.Pia: I confess that ang secret sa acting success sa showbiz ay...
Vic: Pagmamahal. (With his answer, the audience went wild. "Ang aga naman nun!" Pia laughed.)
Vic: Ang ibig sabihin ng pagmamahal, pagmamahal sa trabaho. Kasi para sa akin at sa lahat ng tao, kung ano man ang trabaho mo—ke showbiz o hindi—importante na mahal mo ang iyong trabaho. Doon ka magiging successful, e, pag enjoy ka sa trabaho mo.
Pia: Ilang taon mo na bang minamahal ang industriyang ito?
Vic: More than half of my life. I started when I was 16 years old, at ngayon na ti-three na ako, so matagal-tagal na rin. (Vic was making a clear but funny point of not revealing his real age, so he makes it sound like ‘ti-three.')
Pia: I confess that the biggest challenge na hinarap ko bilang ama ay...
Vic: Pagiging isang mabuting ama. I always tried being a good father, but I know I'm not an ideal father. Marami akong pagkukulang sa mga anak ko.
Pia: I confess ang greatest weakness ko ay...
Vic: Hirap akong tumanggi sa humihingi ng tulong. Yung mga lumalapit, lalo na sa pinansiyal na aspeto. Minsan kasi para sa akin, hindi lahat ng humihingi ng tulong ay dapat tulungan. Kasi may mga humihingi ng tulong na hindi ka sigurado kung saan mapupunta ‘yong pera, baka sa kung saan-saan kalokohan lang. Pero siyempre, hindi ko basta-basta matanggihan.
Pia: I confess ang aking ultimate fear ay...
Vic: [To Pia] Mawala ka sa buhay ko... No explanation needed. It's self-explanatory. (Once again, the crowd went wild. It took about a minute for the noise to calm down.)
Pia: I confess ang greatest sacrifice na ginawa ko para sa aking lovelife ay...
Vic: Greatest sacrifice ay yung pagtigil sa paninigarilyo. First-year high school pa lang yata ako naninigarilyo na ako. And it wasn't easy kicking the habit, but I'm trying my very best na talagang hindi na babalikan. (It was Pia who asked Vic to stop smoking, as a Valentine's gift to her.)
Pia: I really wanna say I'm proud of you. Ever since he said that he was gonna stop, he's never picked up a cigarette since. Never.
Pia: I confess ang aking most guilty pleasure ay...
Vic: Lumalabas ba ang ‘ab' ko? [Vic pointed his tummy]. Guilty pleasure is, of course, kumain. Nahawa yata ako sa ‘yo, e [referring to Pia].
Vic Sotto's "ti-third" birthday, by the way, is next week, so S-Files wanted to know what Vic would want to receive from Pia for his birthday.
"For my birthday?" Vic says. "Baliktarin naman kaya natin. Ikaw [Pia] naman kaya sumagot nung questions."
Now, the tables have turned. It's Pia's time to play the game. What happened next was a series of one-liners with short intermissions from screaming fans.
Vic: I confess na mahal na mahal ko si...
Pia: Vic Sotto.
Vic: I confess, when you look at me, I feel...
Pia: Awesome.
Vic: I confess I like it when you...
Pia: Tell me you love me.
They ended the fun interview with a kiss. The other hosts—Paolo Bediones, John "Sweet" Lapus, and Joey Marquez—barely heard themselves from the loud screams of the kilig fans.
S-Files will be replaced by Showbiz Central—to be hosted by Pia and Sweet, with Raymond Gutierrez—starting next Sunday, April 29.
Alynna Asistio, New girl on cam
Monday nights on GMA will never be the same with a new sitcom that will definitely make you laugh -- “Who’s Your Daddy Now?” It tells of the adventures and misadventures of a teenage girl in search for her real father.This new offering also ushers the debut of another fresh face on television: the pretty Alynna Asistio, who, with her chinita eyes and smiling face, is very hard to miss. iGMA.tv sits down for a chat with the young lady whose mom is former actress Nadia Montenegro.
Alynna, or Ynna, as she is more fondly called, is Andrea in Who's Your Daddy Now? She plays the girl looking for her real father following the death of her mother who raised her.
But the girly, fashionable and bubbly Andrea is far from the real Ynna, as she claims to be a bit boyish, shy and aloof. “I’m not a fashionista, I’m not kikay. Opposite, (kasi) may pagka-boyish ako” she says.
So more than influencing the way her character moves by simply being her, Ynna claims Andrea has been unconsciously changing her as she internalizes the role. “Pumasok na siya sa life ko,” she shares, laughing coyly. “Ngayon naging kikay na tuloy ako!”
One trait that connects Ynna and Andrea though, is their sweetness. “(Si Andrea ay) sweet, kasi siyempre ang tagal niyang nawalan ng daddy, tapos nagkaroon siya ng dalawa, so sinuwerte siya (at) masaya siya.”
First Time Jitters
For Ynna, landing a role in one of GMA’s shows is a great learning opportunity a newcomer like her could not let slip away. “Sinabi po sa ’kin ni Mommy na I’m joining ‘yung kapalit ng Lagot Ka . Tapos ako, (sabi ko) ‘okay.’” she narrates. “(Tapos) na-excite (na) po talaga ako kasi it’s a different experience,” she adds.
And although this is not her first time to be seen on the small screen as she has hosted for QTV’s Candies a year ago, Ynna admits she still can’t help but get jitters especially when she thinks of being with big stars. Her co-stars in the show include Joey Marquez, Raymart Santiago, Paolo Contis and Jean Garcia.
“’Yung unang pictorial, kinabahan po ako kasi sobrang big stars ‘yung mga kasama ko dito” she shares, smiling as she recalled the experience. “Pero sobrang inaalagaan po nila ako.”
Ynna is also all-smiles as she talks about her working relationships with the cast and crew who have always been nice and accommodating and have made her feel welcome. “’Yung una, feeling ko out ako dito, pero sobrang tinuring nila akong anak. Anak na nga po tawag nila sa akin” she finishes with a happy grin.
Appearing on TV in a comedy show is a big break for her, which is why she is very keen on improving herself in her newfound love. Fortunately, the efforts she exerts to do well are noticed by her co-stars who are all praises for her.
Veteran actress Jean Garcia, who plays Stephanie, remarks, “Nagtatanong siya about her outfit, about her acting. She is very sweet, very charming and has breeding.”
Ryza at Nicole posibleng malink ulit kay Mark
MAGKASAMA sa Fantastic Man sina Ryza Cenon at Nicole Anderson, parehong na-link sa bidang si Mark Herras. Pareho ng sinabi ang dalawang dalaga na “strictly professional” ang pakikipagtrabaho nila sa actor, pero expected nilang maiintriga ang pagsasama-sama nilang tatlo.
Mas malaki ang tsansang mabuhay ang tsismis kina Ryza at Mark, dahil isa ang dalaga sa kapareha ng actor, samantalang si Nicole ay gumaganap na secretary ni Joey Marquez.
In fact, sa presscon pa lang sila nagkita’t wala pang eksena together.
Busy din si Nicole sa Bleach, kung saan boses ni Inoue ang dina-dub. Okey sa kanya na light ang schedule ngayon dahil graduating siya sa British School. Namimili na siya kung sa Ateneo, University of Asia & the Pacific o sa States mag-e-enroll ng Marketing Communications and Public Relations.
Parehong walang lovelife sina Nicole at Mark. Hindi kaya maging daan ang show para manumbalik ang pagkagusto ng actor sa dalaga?
Kaya lang, baka mag-dialogue na naman si Nicole ng “He’s so yesterday,” patungkol kay Mark.
Ryza Cenon and Mark Herras team up for the first time after controversy
Umaasa ang Ultimate Female Survivor ng StarStruck 2 na si Ryza Cenon na magugustuhan ng fans ang kanilang tambalan ni Mark Herras sa Fantastic Man, ang pinakabagong programang handog ng GMA-7 na mapapanood every Saturday, starting April 14. Bukod kina Ryza at Mark, na siyang gaganap bilang Fantastic Man, kasama rin dito sina Jackie Rice, Joey Marquez, Ariel Rivera, Paolo Contis, Rez Cortez, Ping Medina, at marami pang iba. "Bale, nandito nga yung challenge sa aming dalawa ni Mark. I mean, hindi namin alam kung tatanggapin ba ito ng tao or what. Ito yung ipinagdarasal namin na sana ay matanggap ng mga tao. Na kahit may issue noong past, na negative ang dating, sana ay matanggap ng mga tao," saad ni Ryza sa panayam ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) sa taping ng Ay, Robot! last March 23.
Bukod sa pagtanggap ng fans sa kanila ni Mark, umaasa ang young actress na makakaiwas na siya sa mga hindi magagandang intriga. Matatandaang na-trauma ang 19-year-old na dalaga nang bansagang ahas sa relasyon noon nina Mark at Jennylyn Mercado. Inintriga at pinagselosan siya ni Jennylyn dahil sa pagiging malapit niya kay Mark. "Trabaho naman po ang usapan dito at sana ay wala nang negative na issue," sabi pa ni Ryza. Idinagdag pa ng dalaga na career ang concentration niya.
Wala rin daw ilangan sa kanila ni Mark kahit nagkaroon ng intriga sa kanila before. "Okay naman kami ni Mark, e," banggit ng young actress. "Wala namang kaso sa amin ‘yon. After ng incident na nagka-issue sa amin, talagang medyo lumayo ako, hindi lang kay Mark kundi pati sa ibang boys. Parang hindi na ako masyadong nakikipag-close sa boys, kasi dun ako nami-misinterpret, e. Sobrang malambing po kasi ako at makulit, so nami-misinterpret ng mga tao yung mga kilos ko.
So medyo limitado na ngayon, parang may wall siya at hindi na gaya ng dati." Dagdag pa niya, "Ako naman, expected ko na, na magkakaroon ng issue dahil lagi kaming magkasama ngayon ni Mark, e. Kung magka-issue at negative na naman, handa na po ako dun.
Ganyan naman talaga sa showbiz, e. Pero sana, kung puwede, umaasa akong wala nang ganung dumating, kung puwede lang po sana." Paano kung ligawan siya ni Mark? "Ligawan? Ngiii!" nakatawang saad niya na napangiwi pa ang mukha dahil allergic talagang maintrigang muli. "Hindi po muna siguro. Marami pa kasi akong pangarap, e. Kung ligawan ako, e... Hindi naman siguro, kilala ko naman si Mark, e. As a friend na lang siguro kami," nakangiting pagtatapos na ni Ryza.

Fantastic Mark
Dubbed as the next Bad Boy of show business, Mark Herras will soon be seen as the newest super hero in town. Scheduled to grace our screens before long, Mark agreed to give iGMA an exclusive peek of what’s in store for us and to answer the hottest issues on his career and personal life. Siyempre po masaya ako, siyempre, parang, ahhh, after ng mga napunta sa aking trabaho, talagang ngayon lang ako nagkaroon ng sariling show. Pero siyempre ito yung parang isa sa pinaka-mabigat na trabaho and sobrang pressured po ako.
Why?
Kasi una Fantastikman ang gumawa niyan talaga sa film is Vic Sotto. Talagang blockbuster yung film, and parang nakakahiya, if ever man, di natin masabi ano kalalabasan, di ba?markAng sabi nga sa akin ni Direk Zoren (Legaspi) ang dapat naming gawin is dapat daw pag prinesent sa mga Big Boss yung Fantastikman matuwa sila, kasi yung sa ratings naman, di daw po natin masasabi yun, minsan pangit yung show mataas yung ratings or maganda yung show, mababa yung ratings, so pressured lang ako kasi malaki yung ineexpect nila sa akin.
How are you preparing for this show? Do you have trainings for this?
Training for Fantastikman? Wala naman kaming ginawa. Pero nung isang araw sinukatan nako, tapos last night nagfit ako ng costume.
Talk about your costume. What is your costume like?
Para akong (L.A.) Lakers (laughs). Hindi ano, violet and yellow kasi yung itsura. Actually, parang medyo similiar dun sa Fantastikman ni Vic Sotto. Pinoy ang gumawa. And pagdating naman dun sa mask, hindi siya yung basta may tali sa likod. (Ito) parang prosthetics, didikit talaga siya, para everytime na may fight scene hindi siya natatanggal. Happy ako dun sa costume kasi di ako nagmukhang payat. I mean wala siyang mga naka implant na muscles, pero medyo nakakailang ng konti (blushes).
What about the story, is it going to be the same as Vic Sotto’s movie?
Actually, nung tinanong ko sila kung related nga yung Fantastikman ngayon sa movie ni tito Vic before, hindi naman daw ganon kaparehas. Ang naging parehas lang yata ay yung isang kalaban, na like, doctor. Parang yun yata yung nagbigay ng powers sa kaniya. So yun lang ang naging parehas, meroon silang kalaban na doctor. Mostly, yung story niya di naman matured na dumating sakin, medyo bagets parin. mark
Who are the cast of the show?
Lahat ng taong mababait--- Joey Marquez, Benjie Paras, Paolo Contis, Earl Rivera, Rez Cortez.
What about your leading lady?
Hindi ko pa alam kung sino sa dalawa. Pero dalawa pinagpipilian, Si Jackie (Rice) and Ryza (Cenon)
Does the story have comedic moments, since this was patterned after Vic Sotto’s film?
Feeling ko meron eh, sabi nila, pinapagaya nga nila sakin yung pagsabi ni Vic ng “Hi fans” eh (laughs)
Were you asked to watch Fantastikman, the movie?
Hindi ko siya natapos, actually, pero if ever daw na kakausapin ko si tito Vic about dun. Sabi ko if po na may di ako maintindihan about the character, siguro lalapit ako, pero siyempre nahihiya ako (smiles)
How is Fantastikman different from your role in Super Noypi?
Sa Super Noypi kasi yun nga may telekinetic powers ako dun. Ang powers ni Fantastikman, yung mga kamay niya nagiging weapons, tapos meron siyang ability to jump higher. Parang kunwari, feeling ko nga meroon kaming eksena this Thursday na meron kaming ise-save from the building, so nasa baba ako, parang may spring yung paa ko, tatalon ako from baba to the top, so makikita ng tao na may weapons, may weapons ako, flexibility, di ba? Sa Noypi kasi parang imaginary powers.
Let’s say, you wake up one day and you are a super hero, what powers do you want and what would you do with it?
Meron kasing character sa X-men, pero nung sa X-men ginawa yung si Mystique, pero sa cartoon si Morf, yung pwede siyang kahit ano, pwede siyang gumaya ng kahit anong klaseng powers o pwede kahit anong klaseng itsura.
Why did you choose that power?
Bakit nga ba? (Laughs) Ano ba? Parang kalokohan yung naisip ko ah. Laughs) Hindi. Actually mas-madali yun kasi parang marami kang advantage. Kung paano mo gustong gayahin ang tao di ba? Kaya lang, ang problema lang diyan kung gagamitin mo in a nice way or in a bad way.
Who would you like to impersonate?
markSino ba? (smiles) Baka mamaya mali masabi ko eh. Sino ba? Siguro, maging Jen (Jennylyn Mercado) for a day (laughs)
What if tomorrow when you wake up, you have this power, what’s the first thing that will cross your mind?
Malamang maiisip ko lang kalokohan agad.
Like?
Siguro maghahanap ako ng isang napakagandang babae, at pag nakita ko boyfriend niya, gagayahin ko boyfriend niya (smiles mischievously).
Why do you think people call you the “bad boy of the dance floor?”
Bakit nga ba? Kasi feeling ko unang-una akong tinawag ng tao na ‘bad boy’ nung StarStruck dahil dun sa looks na kalbo ako tapos may zigzag ‘yung hair ko, tapos may hiwa ‘yung kilay ko. Parang tingin sa akin ng tao parang gago, parang bad boy talaga, tapos siyempre nagkaroon pa ako ng issues before - may mga babae, tapos may mga away-away. Feeling ko ‘yun, pero hindi naman talaga ako ganoon.
So you’re not really a bad boy?
Hindi naman!
Yesterday, Bad Boy Mark talked about his newest superhero series, Fantastikman, soon to air on GMA. But that's just the start of this StarStruck Survivor's long list of surprises for 2007. Aside from Fantastikman and Princess Charming, what are your
other projects that we can look forward to?
May naka-line up daw ako for Regal Films. Horror movie muna, tapos with John Prats, (a) dance movie, tapos Call Center. Sa TV naman, hindi ko pa confirmed kung regular ako or semi pa lang, pero almost magtu-two months na akong nagte-taping for Bubble Gang and then SOP, siyempre. May ginagawa rin akong independent film ngayon, Sapi.
Tell us about it.
Actually bago ang buong staff and cast, hindi pa ako familiar. Ang kilala ko pa lang ay si Lola Obang, tapos dapat si Cristine (Reyes) ‘yung kapartner ko, inayawan niya. Ryza (Cenon) inayawan, LJ (Reyes) inayawan. Tuwing nababasa nila ‘yung script umaayaw sila. Kasi actually, mahirap ‘yung role nila. Parang mayroon silang mga rape scene, tapos asawa nila ako, (may) bed scene. Baka ayaw nilang makipag bed scene sakin! Ang confirmed na yata si Michelle Madrigal.
Do you have plans to make another dance album this year?
Wala pa pong plans. Actually hinihintay pa po namin kung magkakaroon pa ng debut iyong second album kasi balita ko may mga fans ako na kahit saan ako magpunta, nandoon sila. And hindi ko naman sila tinatrato as fans. Actually iyong iba mga kaibigan ko na rin.
Then ito nga, I (heard from Fanatxt), malapit na daw magplatinum iyung album. So hinihintay namin sana. Eh di ba “Average Joe” nagkaroon ng sobrang daming awards, nag-double platinum, tapos nagkaroon pa kami ng award from ASAP. (Pero) for the next album, wala pa naman pong plans.
Any dance concert plans?
Actually, na-tour namin ‘yung birthday concert ko, sa Zirkoh Timog, tapos Klownz Quezon Avenue, tapos ‘yung last sa Klownz Angeles, (Pampanga). So kung ako pagdedesisyunin, rest muna! Hinihingal na ako, eh! Ang daming sayaw!
Who conceptualizes your dance steps, and how much input do you have?
Actually, ako lang ‘yung taga-sayaw; sa first album namin, si Miggy (Tanchangco) lahat ang gumawa ng steps. Then nung second album si Miggy din. Ako, may konti akong nadagdag, pero more of, siyempre, siya yung choreographer, and ang papel ko doon sa ginawa niyang sayaw is sayawin ng maayos at ipakilala sa tao.
Would you want to choreograph dance steps in the future?
Yeah, actually opo. Minsan sa bahay, minsan nagta-try ako, pero kung magaling ako magmemorize ng steps, kapag ako na gumagawa ng sayaw, hindi ko pa agad ganoon namememorya. Kailangan i-video ko every time gagawa ako ng step. So, hindi pa kaya ng powers!
What’s your favorite dance step?
Actually ano, parang pop-locking lang, ‘yung mga favorite moves, pop-lock lang. Kasi di ba before nagkaroon kami ng ‘Hataw-now’ group, so kami, individually, like si Marky break dancing, si Miggy, hip-hop jazz, tapos ako pop-locking.
Do you dislike any step in particular?
Hindi naman inaayawan, pero mapapansin niyo sa akin pag di ko gusto ‘yung sayaw, more of nage-enjoy, like noong sumayaw kami sa SOP ng Itaktak Mo. So enjoy lang, parang naghaharutan lang, pero nandoon pa rin siyempre ang hataw. Pero more enjoy.
Unlike, pag sumasayaw ka ng hataw, wala kang makikitang ngiti sa bibig ko! Pag di ako seryoso nakaklimutan ko ‘yung sayaw eh, nablablanko ako on stage.
Any dance idols?
Actually, wala akong kilalang dancer sa States, siguro si Justin (Timberlake) and Usher. Tapos dito ‘yung lumang group ng Street Boys, tapos UMB, Miggy, Gary V.
Have you ever tried the moves of the Sexbomb Girls?
Before, actually nung StarStruck, kasama iyan sa test namin. Nakasayaw naman, pero siyempre, nandoon ang ilang factor. Na parang, you can’t compare with Sexbomb.
Actually, nagkaroon kami ng showdown di ba? Eh, parang dalawang Sexbomb girl each artist, so tatlo kaming lalaki or apat, tapos may dalawa kaming kasamang babaeng Sexbomb. Sila gumawa ng steps tapos showdown and as usual willing kami.
You’ve tried being a ‘bebot’ in Eat Bulaga. How was it like?
Mahirap mag-heels!
Did you feel ‘beautiful?’
Hindi ko masasabi kung maganda ako! Pero ‘yung experience ko, sobrang hirap, kasi parang naka-gown kayo, tapos naka-wig, make-up. Parang ang bigat-bigat ng lashes ko, (kasi may fake lashes). Lip gloss nga lang ilang na ilang na ako tapos nilagyan pa ako ng lipstick! Tapos di ka makalakad ng matino kasi naka-heels ka, tapos change costume kaagad, make-up, retouch, bihis ka ng kung ano-ano! ‘Yung talent portion ko pa, sasayaw ako!Would you accept a gay role?
Yeah.
Are you willing to do a love scene?
Sa ngayon, parang hindi pa. Actually, niloloko kami, gawa daw kami ng film ni Buboy, ni Ranier (Castillo), na ganoon. Pero siguro di ako sanay, parang may kissing scene, hindi ko kaya.
If you weren’t in show business, what would you be doing right now?
Kasi ngayon nag-stop ako sa studies ko, kung makakuha man ako ng work, maybe working student. Pero if ever na pinagpatuloy ko siguro, nagpursige akong mag-training or magtry-out, kahit papaano, varsity siguro, basketball. Or pinakamagandang word – tambay!
Where and when did you stop studying?
Natapos ko na ang first sem eh, sa first year college in La Salle Cavite. Business Management.
When are you planning to go back to school?
Maraming nagsasabi sakin na mag-home study. Feeling ko mas tatamarin ako. Kung tamad ako dati na pumapasok ako feeling ko mas tatamarin ako sa bahay. If ever gusto ko, school pa rin.
Is Super Noypi 2 pushing through?
Wala pa kaming plan. Wala pang sinasabi samin. Pero sana!
Who would you like to be paired with in the future?
Ako naman, kahit sino, wala naman akong pipili, before kasi na-stuck ako kay Jen. So ngayon, everytime na may dumarating sakin na trabaho na iba kapartner ko, happy na ako doon. Kasi di ba matagal akong nakulong sa isang love team. So kahit sino okay lang.
If you could be paired with a veteran actress, who would you choose?
Ms. Sharon Cuneta, or Ms. Cherry Pie.
Who was your celebrity idol, even before you got into showbiz?
Robin Padilla. Aga Mulach.
What kind of movie would you want to do with them?
Siguro kapag kay Aga, more of drama and love story siguro, pero pag kay Robin siyempre
action, action-comedy.
Have you been in action flicks before?
Hindi pa, wala pa akong nagawa na may hawak akong baril. Sana magkaroon.
How do you handle intrigues such as the recent one where you were offered a lot of money for a date?
Hindi naman (ako offended). Hindi ko alam kung saan nanggaling ang issue. Lately ko lang nalaman sa S-Files. So ako, ang reaction ko lang ‘O, talaga, may ganoon ba? Bakit hindi ko alam?’ Pero wala naman akong violent reaction about that. Okay lang.
What if somebody does offer you a large sum in exchange for something?
Kung may biglang lalapit sa akin at mago-offer ng ganoon, basta ba hindi niya ako physically babastusin, maayos niya akong kauusapin, maayos ko rin siyang ituturn-down.
